£6 a week tax back
if you work from home
If you have been required to work from home, even for just one day, since 6 April… you can claim tax relief for the whole year – worth £60 or £125 depending on your rate of tax. Currently this applies just for 2020/2021 and has been agreed to avoid extensive admin costs for HMRC. If you have already submitted your claim and haven't taken advantage of this, it is not too late. If you do a tax return, you claim via the return itself, but if not, visit the HMRC page and follow the instructions. You'll need your Gateway ID.
HMRC says: “We recognise that the working from home situation is very fluid this year, so we’re accepting claims for the full year’s expenses. That includes even if people have only worked from home for some of the year, to avoid needing to contact us if you have to work from home again.”
